On 25.06.2009 BLAST, Ain o Shalish Kendra (ASK) and Coalition for the Urban Poor (CUP) filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging an arbitrary announcement threatening the forceful eviction of approximately 5,000 inhabitants of the Gudaraghat Basti, Kafrul, Dhaka to vacate the slum area immediately or face removal and demolition of their structures.

Details

The High Court issued a Rule Nisi upon the respondents to show cause as to why the threat of eviction without alternative accommodation should not be declared to be without lawful authority and of no legal effect. The High Court also issued an injunction restraining the respondents from evicting the slum dwellers.
